backmassage

Sports or deep tissue Massage

Sports Massage targets your problem areas. Say for instance, you are experiencing some pain and discomfort in your lower back.

If you book an appointment with me, following our consultation I will conduct a postural analysis on you to check for any imbalances. This involves palpating your lower back to find your tender areas and checking your glutes, piriformis and hamstrings and hip flexors.

My rule of thumb is to check and treat above and below your problem area, as more often than not the issue is referred pain from something else being weaker and unbalanced.

During a Sports Massage I perform all the traditional techniques used in Swedish Massage, but I am also trained to perform other specialised techniques such as:

  • Trigger point therapy
  • Passive stretches
  • Active stretches
  • Muscle energy
  • RI stretches (reciprocal Inhibition)
  • PIR (post isometric relaxation)
  • STR (Soft Tissue release)
  • Myofascial release
  • Muscle stripping
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Ischemic pressure

My aim is to find the root cause of your pain and discomfort, so I will check to see if you have a limited range of movement. The aim is to prevent an injury or prevent an existing one from getting worse to enable you to rehab and get yourself back on track.

Most often, tight muscles that limit your range of movement and cause discomfort are the result of the muscle being weaker then the opposing muscle, not necessarily because it is “overworked”. The rest of the muscles surrounding it and often on the opposite side are compensating for this, so you start to muscle guard – something that you may be doing subconsciously.
